Retrieval of vacuole membrane is well underway at this open cytoproct. An extensive layer of actin-like filamentous material (fil) lies against the spent vacuole membrane that is no doubt playing a role in membrane invagination and vesiculation. Complete membrane retrieval will result in the pulling together of the cytoproct lips (arrows). EM taken on 12/7/73 by R. Wolf with Hitachi HU11A TEM. Neg. 10,750X. Bar = 0.5µm. Published in J.
