Early endosomes (ee) receive membrane from the vesicles coming
from the coated ends of the parasomal sacs (ps) or their larger
invaginations (*) and in turn give rise to secondary coated
vesicles (arrowheads) at their own margins that pinch off to be
transported to other parts of the cell. They may fuse with late
endosomes which presumably become part of the phagocytic system (see
Nilsson and Van Deurs, J. Cell Sci. 63:209-222, l982), at least they
do in Paramecium. lip, lipid droplet; mu,
mucocyst. EM taken on 7/20/65 by R. Allen with RCA TEM. Neg 18,000X.
