Seven cilia/basal bodies (arrowheads and arrows) along
a kinety of a pre-dividing cell, at least three probasal bodies
(arrows) are forming anterior to the proximal ends of the basal
bodies. The infraciliature consists of 2 ribbons of microtubules (see
next pictures) and a kinetodesmal fiber (kd) that all extend
from the proximal end of the basal body in 3 separate directions but
all reach the epiplasm. This arrangement gives structural support to
the beating cilium/basal body complex. EM taken on 1/29/65 by R. Allen
