The nuclear envelope (ne) of both the macronucleus, seen here, and the micronucleus consists of 2 membranes containing numerous perforations called pores (nep). Proteins are imported through these pores and ribosomal subunits are transported out of the macronucleus through the same pores. EM taken on 8/16/67 by R. Allen with a Philips 200 TEM. Neg. 12,400X. Bar = 0.5µm.
