Didinium has two bands of basal body (bb)/cilium complexes that encircle the cell, one adorally encircling the base of the cytopharyngeal proboscis and one aborally. The proximal end of basal bodies are ensheathed in electron opaque sleeves from which microtubular ribbons (mt) extend into the adjacent ridges on the two sides of each basal body. mu, mucocyst; ep, epiplasm.
