Coleps hirtus (Cambridge Culture Collection, Cambridge, England, catalog # LB1656/1). Transmission electron micrograph (EM) of barrel-shaped cell. Coleps has a few rows of cilia and the cell is covered with calcified polysaccharide platelets that are housed within the alveoli. In this EM the platelets are absent as they had been dissolved during preparation for electron microscopy. mac, macronucleus; fv, food vacuole; vac, large empty vacuole. EM taken on 5/23/69 by R.
