Quadrulus membranelle (4 rows of cilia) in the buccal cavity. Microtubules of the axonemes of the cilia and the triplet fibers of the basal bodies are labeled. Ribbons of microtubules arise from the side of the quadrulus (arrows) next to the cytopharynx and single microtubules (mt) are liberally scattered about in this zone. The “sperm-shaped” structures (arrowheads) are early endosomes with clathrin coated pits forming the “heads”. EM taken on 7/5/96 by R. Allen with Zeiss 10A TEM. Neg. 9,780X. Bar = 0.5 µm.
