Single microtubules (arrowhead) also extend into the cytoplasm from the tips of the cytoproct ridge (arrow). These are thought to come to lie along the surface of the approaching DV-IV and to pull the ridge down against the DV-IV and to permit the plasma membrane at the crest of the ridge to fuse with the tubular extensions of the DV-IV.
