Trichocysts (tric) are “carrot-shaped” extrusive organelles known to be secreted when a calcium influx is triggered mechanically, chemically or electrically. The trichocyst has a body and complex tip both containing paracrystalline-packed proteins. A field of glycogen storage granules is present around the tip. EM taken on 6/5/69 by R.
