Fig. 10: Pca - kinetodesmal fibers

Kinetodesmal fibers (kd) arise from the proximal ends of the basal bodies (bb) and curve upward and to the cell’s right of the kinety. Together with kds arising from more posterior basal bodies they form a stack of overlapping fibers in the longitudinal ridge. A ribbon of microtubules (pc mt) also arises from the proximal end of the basal body and curves posteriorly passing to the right of the kinety. The plasma membrane and outer alveolar membrane were fragmented in this cell. poly, polysomes. EM taken on 11/2/68 by R. Allen with Philips 300 TEM. Neg. 20,500X. Bar = 0.2µm.
