Fig. 10: CV in diastole with radial canals open to CV

Sections through the CV in diastole (filling phase) show a level where some of the radial arms are connected to the CV and where some ribbons of microtubules are leaving the CV to form the framework for the radial arms. The radial arms consist of the ribbon to which is attached a collecting canal and a meshwork of “smooth” tubules. Farther from the CV, decorated tubules will surround and empty into the smooth tubules. Inward from the level of the juncture with the radial arms the CV membrane can be seen to expand out from the tubular remnants of the collapsed CV (arrowheads). At least 11 ribbons of microtubules can be seen around the surface of this CV. EM taken on 4/5/80 by R. Allen with Hitachi HU11A TEM. Neg. 7,000X. Bar = 1µm. Part published in J.
