Vesicles and early endosomes under the membranelles of the peniculus
of the buccal cavity. Cilia (c) and basal bodies (bb)
are tangentially fractured in this quick-freeze deep-etch preparation.
Preendosomal vesicles (prev), clathrin-coated and partially
uncoated, that arise from the clathrin-coated ends of parasomal sacs
(cov) lie nearest the basal body/cilium complexes. Internal to
these are the many early endosomes (ee) to which the uncoated
preendosomal vesicles fuse and from which smaller clathrin-coated
vesicles bud off. Blebs (arrowheads) protrude from one early
endosome. Carrier vesicles (cav) of about 100nm in diameter are
found internal to the early endosomes. EM taken on 7/19/88 by C.
