A freeze-fracture image of a DV-II transforming into a DV-III by
rapid fusion of lysosomes with its membrane. The P-face shown here of
the early DV-III has abundant IMPs as well as many inward blebs (many
are fractured off) and a wrinkled surface topography indicating recent
lysosome fusion with the membrane. Some lysosomes (ly) still
lie around the DV as well as many smaller vesicles
(arrowheads). Blebs however only extend inward toward the lumen
rather than into the cytosol. EM taken on 9/27/76 by R. Allen with
JEM-100B TEM. Neg. 9,719X. Bar = 0.5µm.
