Detail of the boxed area in Fig. 2b showing the origin of the cytopharyngeal ribbons (cr) from the filamentous reticulum (fr) and their curving around the cytostomal cord (cc) as they pass out into the cytosol. Discoidal vesicles (d) move to the forming food vacuole (fv) and fuse with this membrane (arrow) under the cord. Finger-like extensions of the alveoli (a) extend to the cord between the ribbons.
