A field of small trichocyst precursor vesicles. A small core of
condensed material occupies the center of each vesicle that is linked
by threads to the membrane. This resembles the loose matrix of more
mature trichocysts (see later figures). The pitted E-face of these
vesicles is typical of the membrane of trichocyst precursor vesicles.
In two cases vesicles have fused (arrows). EM taken on 5/25/92
by R. Allen with Zeiss 10A TEM. Neg. 19,800X. Bar = 0.2µm. Part
published in Int. Rev. Cytol. 198:277-318, 2000.
