Trichocysts (tric) form in the endoplasm in regions containing
vesicles that vary in size from 100nm to one or two microns in
diameter. The smallest vesicles lie next to the trans Golgi network
(TGN) of a dictyosome (dic) and contain a flocculent material
similar to vesicles that are about 1µm in diameter. Thus the smaller
vesicles appear to fuse together to form the condensing vesicles of
larger diameter. The membrane of these vesicles is thin and
inconspicuous compared to food vacuole and lysosome membranes and is
frequently broken in chemically fixed cells. er, endoplasmic
reticulum. EM taken on 2/28/83 by R. Allen with Hitachi HU11A TEM.
