Another freeze-fractured view of the nuclear envelope of a
macronucleus. The fractured nucleoplasm is present in the upper left
and the dense heterochromatin beads and one nucleolus (no) can
be observed as a difference in the fractured texture. The pores in the
nucleoplasm-facing membrane appear to stand up from the membrane
surface while those in the cytoplasmic-facing membrane appear to be
indented. In fact the two membranes are continuous through each pore.
The fracture plane passes into the cytoplasm in the lower right
corner. EM taken on 12/2/77 by R. Allen with Hitachi HU11A TEM. Neg.
