Isolated and crushed but unfixed mitochondrion shows an extruded
crista as well as several cristae remaining next to the disrupted
mitochondrial membranes (m). All cristae bear rows of particles
along their outside curve (arrows) but also bear a second
single row of larger particles (arrowheads) along the inside
curve. This second row consists of 13-nm-wide particles spaced at 30
