Quick-freeze deep-etch of the transition zone of the ER (er)
with COP-II coated vesicles attached. The coated pits (arrows)
have small 11 nm globular subunits, where these have not been
fractured away to reveal the vesicle membrane underneath. The necks
also have globular subunits along their length. Threads of
non-etchable material link the components of the transition zone
