Striated bands (sb) in a transverse ridge (in which
kinetodesmal fibers are lacking) at high magnification. The longer
band has seven stripes rather than five as in the shorter band. This
suggests three regions of overlap rather than two. The filaments may
have a set length so that for longer distances two sets of overlapping
filaments may be needed to span the distance between the filaments
arising from the epiplasm. gf, granulo-fibrillar material;
il, infraciliary lattice; tr mt, transverse microtubular
band. EM taken on 2/21/69 by R. Allen with Philips 300 TEM. Neg.
47,100X. Bar = 0.1µm.
