Planar view of the cortex demonstrating that the striated bands do indeed link the internal slopes of one cortical unit (*) with all surrounding units. Parasomal sacs (ps) lie to the side of a single basal body or a basal body pair and have a short extension of the alveolar septum (s) that passes around them. Trichocyst tips (tt) penetrate into the lateral ridges and kinetodesmal fibers (kd) run within the longitudinal ridges. EM taken on 2/29/80 by R. Allen with Hitachi HU11A TEM. Neg. 8,500X. Bar = 1µm.
