Fig. 12: fibrous cortical systems

Fibrous systems in the cortex of P. multimicronucleatum. A granulo-fibrillar (gf) system fills the tops of the polygonally-shaped ridges. Below this network are the striated bands (sb) which link the membranes covering the ridges together in all directions by inserting into the epiplasm linking the sides of each depression. Below this is the continuous network of the infraciliary lattice (il) which lies at the level of the proximal ends of the basal bodies and is not connected to the epiplasm. al, alveolar sac; ps, parasomal sac.
