The distal tip of a cilium seen in longitudinal view. Toward the tip
the outer doublets become singlets which collapse against the two
central singlets since dynein arms and spokes are no longer present.
Only the two central singlets reach the very tip of the cilium where
they end in an opaque cap bound to the ciliary membrane (for details
in other protozoa see Dentler, J. Cell Sci. 42:207-220, 1980). EM
